Sonsonate, El Salvador
A quick walk around Sonsonate in El Salvador, a crazy chaotic and load place.
I was looking forward to El Salvador. I came here in 2021 right after they adopted Bitcoin and really enjoyed it. I've been wanting to share it with Mitzi since then.
The problem is that we were at the industrial port of Acajutla and got a ride into Sonsonate, where I'd never been. And it was very different that what I experienced when I was here before.
This was loud, chaotic, crazy. We walked a few blocks to get to a town square thinking we could sit down and think and make some plans. However it smelled like urine very strongly everywhere and the noise and chaos was in the square too.
So we headed across the street to the nicest cathedral in the country (so I heard). It was better but still loud, all the doors were open.
We couldn't find a place to eat that we thought we could survive so we walked back to where the bus would pick us up.

This reminded me of Brazil in many ways but more poverty and more chaos. We left back to the ship feeling a bit overwhelmed.
Back on ship as we sailed out some dolphins joined us. I barely caught this one in the picture!
I've been doing a sardine fast the last few days to get my ketones up, a kind of reset. So at dinner it was kind of funny we're at this fancy place and I'm eating food out of a tin can.
The staff think I'm pretty strange! They are not wrong :)

Look at Mitzi's meal of grilled shrimp, salmon, and other yummies presented and eaten civilly on a plate!
I was talking with Emily on our weekly call today and telling her about our Panama hats we bought in Costa Rica. Hand made and they are amazing skill and craftsmanship that goes into them.
My has a very narrow fiber which makes it a lot more work to build, and more expensive. Mitzi's is a thicker fiber, still a lot of work, and the patterns are beautiful.
I'm really appreciating these hats now that I understand what it takes to create them, the labor and the skill and the time.

That's it for El Salvador, we are on our way to Mexico. I still hope come back some day to a coastal town where life is slow and relaxed like El Zonte. And I'll definitely not be sardine fasting and miss out on pupusas again!
