Rio de Janeiro
3 days in Rio de Janeiro.
We got to stay in port in Rio for 3 days. The night before we arrived we at at the ship's Polo Grill. Always a great dining experience.

We arrived in Rio in the morning and decided to head over to Copacabana beach. It was raining quite a but, and the surrounding mountains were covered in clouds, but it was still a fun time to go see the famous beach.

We found a restaurant that looked fun right on the beach.
That evening Oceania was treating all the world cruise passengers to the Roxy Dinner Show. We headed out on buses.

Mitzi being Mitzi, which is adorable :)

The dinner was great! They were very efficient serving such a large group.
We listened to live Bossa Nova music as we dined.

After dinner the show began. It's one of the best shows we've seen. I loved it. Seeing the Brazilian culture from different parts of the country just made me feel really happy.
It was 11:30p when we loaded back on the buses and headed back to the ship.
Upon arriving at midnight I just needed a pizza so yay for 24 hour room service.

The next morning we woke up to our alarm at 6AM! We had a private tour scheduled and needed to be out on time so we wouldn't miss our events.
Our first stop was the Christ the Redeemer statue. It was foggy and raining but we were not disappointed at all. Even though we couldn't see the amazing view, and we could barely see the top of the statue even just standing at the base, the weather made the experience feel mystical and we enjoyed it.
Mitzi is looking up a the statue through the rain.
Then we headed over to Sugar Loaf mountain with out tour guide Gabrielle.

The weather cleared a lot by the time we got to Sugar Loaf. We took tram #1 up the first mounting.

This old yellow tram car is what they used in the early 1900's.
The views where so nice.
We got some passion fruit ice cream. I got a Coxihna. Loved it. And got another one.

Our next stop was Churrascaria Palace, a Brazilian Steakhouse that has been operating since 1951. Their salad bar was amazing.
We invited Gabrielle to join us for lunch. We had a nice conversation and enjoyed the meal.
On our drive back to Rio downtown the weather had cleared and for the first time in two days we say the Christ statue up on top of the mountain.
Pretty good picture for catching it from a moving car!

We then visited these steps that were made famous in the 90's because Snoop Dog evidently filmed a music video here.
Then we went over to this Catholic cathedral that is build in the most unique way. Homage to the pyramids I think. It was so different than anything we've seen before.
I had to get another pizza when we got back. Oceania makes these pizzas from scratch dough and ingredients. They are artisan, they are perfect in every way. The dough is light and crunchy and fresh and it's just amazing.

We are leaving Rio this evening and continuing our travels to Sao Paulo. It's been a wonderful time in Rio, so grateful we got to do this.
