Puntas Arenas, Chile
A cold day in Puntas Arenas, Chile. King crab lunch fail and the sky was amazing for photos!
To start with, three pictures from yesterday in Ashuaia, Argentina that didn't make it into the post.
The port where our ship was docked. The little penguin we affectionately have named Pinky. It's about 1.5 inches tall.
As I was walking around the city I got this idea in my head that I wanted a little penguin as a token for having been in this part of the earth. So I walked into this store that had these beautiful handmade sculptures of pengiuns. I picked one that was about 2 inches tall and got the price. $1,200 dollars!
I was thinking maybe $50? Anyway I asked what this smaller one cost. $700. Call me sentimental but I really like the way they carved the stone with the head turned. These are all unique made out of Rhodocrosite, a rare gems only found in Argentina and a small amount in the United States.
The marbling is so compelling. So I bought it and when I told Mitzi the story she just laughed and laughed because sometimes I'm so strange to her 😄
We sailed past this glacier while we were eating dinner. Stunning!

On now for Puntas Arenas. It was a very cold day. We bundled up. The sky was amazing, creating very dramatic photos. This was the natural sky giving us this gift today.
Mitzi took this picture on our walk. It deserves it's own space. So artistic!

I took this one in the square. Also deserves it's own space.

Mitzi getting me taking the photo of the statue. Mitzi got this of real cobblestone streets.
And she was interested in this tree we'd never seen anything like it before.
We hiked up to a vista lookup point and enjoyed the view.

We walked by this palace of Sarah Braun. Never heard of her. So I pulled up her history and it's quite a story! Worth looking into sometime. I read it to Mitzi while we walked and waited for lunch.
We were so determined to get some king crab today. Our first restaurant had it but not plain, it was shredded and mixed in mayo. We just wanted it plain. The kind waiter told us that Aima had what we were looking for.
We walked over there and instantly like this place. They opened a few months ago and the decor is beautiful.
They have plain king crab on their menu but they were out! I was so hungry so we ordered oysters and salmon. They have the oysters live in this tank. And the fellow here is shucking them. He literraly grabbed them out of the tank and shucked them and served them. Amazing! We've never had them this fresh before.

We hope to get some king crab before we leave chile. We've got several attempts with our last try on Feb 19 (today is the 10th). We'll see!

Fun day today. Next two days are sea days then we will be in Puerto Montt, Chile for a day.
