New York City with Maddy and Preston
We spend a few days in New York City with Maddy and Preston. And walk 7, 8, and 9 miles a day and love it.
We were sad to leave Portugal and excited to meet Maddy and Preston in New York.
We flew from Faro to London, stayed overnight at the Hilton in the Heathrow airport, then the next afternoon caught a flight direct to New York City.
As we drove to the hotel we passed a business named Borgo. Reminded us of Borgo Scopeto in Tuscany were we stayed earlier this year.
The next day Maddy and Preston flew in from Salt Lake City and we got together around lunch time to start exploring.
The Jones traditionally do a lot of walking in New York City. So it was fun for me (Damon) to experience it first hand. It was also a good test to verify that Maddy's hip surgery from the summer was successful.
We walked 7 to 9 miles a day! I got some really great pictures and was very happy.
There was a Mets and Dodgers game. We got some tickets and enjoyed watching.
While waiting in line for some food a tiny Dodgers fan kept staring up at me. He seemed fascinated, perhaps because of the camera? So I took a picture and he just kept staring.
More walking and shopping and eating!
We visited one of Dominique Ansel stores, the workshop, and had some wonderful food. He is a genius.
We went to an Ugg store. Preston found these cool shoes and bought them, and walked around the rest of the day. Stylish!
We took the subway a few times.
Visited Grand Central Station.
Visited the mall at the World Trade Center and spent some time at the 9-11 memorial.
Little Italy, we enjoyed an italian lunch.
That night we went to Keen's Steakhouse. They've been operating since the 1850's.
I got their famous Mutton Chops. 2 pounds of lamb, and it was pretty incredible.
This place is so ancient and has so much character.
They have old pipes that were smoked by very famous people from history. Teddy Roosevelt and others.
The next day we walked 9 miles.
We walked the Brooklyn Bridge on our way to Brooklyn and Grimaldi's pizza.
Grimaldi's under the Brooklyn Bridge!
We took a ferry to get back to Manhattan.
Where upon Mitzi chased the pigeons!
This Messiah sign caught my attention, kind of interesting.
For our last dinner we went to The Smith. Maddy and Preston decided to try the raw oysters. They came to enjoy them on this trip.
On our last night we went to Broadway and watched Moulin Rouge. I think it's so genius how they merged so many well known songs together to tell the story, super entertaining.
We left early the next morning from La Guardia and flew to Panama City Beach with a 3 hour layover in Charlotte.
As we left New York we flew over the city.
In Charlotte we rented a little rest room which was quiet and comfortable. It was a non eventful trip home, just the way we like it.
So that wraps up our whirlwind trip to Dallas, Portugal, and New York. 2 and a half weeks and it seemed like a whirlwind. For us I guess that is a short trip!
