Janis Brothers Bitcoin Cruise on Allure of the Seas
The 2024 Bitcoin cruise. Roark, Brandon, and Damon go on a 4 night cruise to the Bahamas and talk Bitcoin, dream Bitcoin, and share ideas on how to contribute to the Bitcoin ecosystem.
Earlier this year me and two of my brothers (Roark and Brandon) decided to go on a cruise together to talk about Bitcoin. We see bitcoin as the best store of value ever created, an excellent medium of exchange, and eventual unit of account.
It's the best money humans have ever created.
Finally the time has arrived!
I drove down to Miami to meet Roark and Brandon for our Bitcoin cruise.
Stopped at a Subway and their drinks were flat, their toaster didn't work, the lady making the sandwich we super friendly but did not know how to make a sandwich, it was hilarious!
Had a powdered donut for Benson since we both love them :)
We had dinner at the Lido Bayside in Miami with Zack from Bold, a Bitcoin Vault company making it easy to buy and hold Bitcoin securely. It was actually fun to have a business conversation like this, I haven't done this sort of thing for a long time.
The next day we checked into the ship through the Suite line and kudos to Royal Caribbean, it was a simple and fast process!
And then it was that always exciting moment as we walk across the gangway onto the ship. It never gets old. Brandon is taking a picture of me taking a picture haha.
After boarding we grabbed hot dogs, Roark opened his Coldcard box (yes, we are going to walk through setting up a Coldcard hardware wallet!), and had lunch in the 18+ restaurant where it's a little quieter.
We are all wearing our Satoshi's Gulch caps – hat tip to Galt's Gulch in Atlas Shrugged.
Our second day we stopped at Coco Cay.
Brandon made delicious and fresh juice for us in the morning.
We walked over to the island and had lunch and talked Bitcoin.
For dinner we went to Izumi hibachi grill. Great food and service. We talked Bitcoin the whole time.
Then we walked around the ship twice as the sun was going down.
In the evening we watched the Oceanaria show – it was so entertaining and enjoyable, really great entertainment.
Day 3 and a stop in Nassau.
Roark and Brandon worked in the solarium during the morning.
Then we headed into town for a 2 mile walk to try The New Duff. It's a highly rated little place and we were looking forward to having a unique food experience. It 100% delivered.
These little Duffs were so flavorful. It was very hot today and doing all the walking in the hot sun made for a deep thirst. The Guava Ginger lemonade came to the rescue. One wasn't enough, we got more and kept guzzling.
The breakfast sandwiches were amazing too.
We walked all the way back to the ship.
For dinner we enjoyed Izumi again, except this time on the sushi side.
Our last full day on the cruise was a sea day. There is a large hurricane going up the west coast of Florida. So we headed east after leaving Nassau then in the morning turned around and headed west again. We'll be in Miami tomorrow morning.
We had a wonderful lunch at 150 Central Park. They treated us to lemon rolls and tuna tartare.
This was one of the best, maybe the best, filet mignon I've ever had.
We had dinner at Samba, a Brazilian restaurant. More filet mignon, truly excellent.
For desert we had this passion fruit mango pudding. Incredibly delicious, we asked for the pastry chef to come over so we could thank him.
We've had great dining experiences on this ship.
Sad as always that the cruise is coming to a close.
I've enjoyed spending time with Roark and Brandon. Talking Bitcoin, talking business, talking about life. And just enjoying being brothers. It's nice to have belonging in the world.
Day 5 and we got off the ship this morning. Brandon and Roark had a flight out of Miami back to Salt Lake in the afternoon. So we went over to El Toro Loco at Bayfront Park for more ... Brazilian food!
Here's Roark on a phone call as we waited for the food truck to open at 11a.
Here's Brandon on a phone call coming over to sit down at a table I secured.
And here's Roark bringing over the food we ordered, with the El Toro Loco food truck in the background.
Alas no pictures of the food – none of us had breakfast and we were so hungry we could only think of food and not pictures :)
So glad we did this cruise! And that's a wrap!
